I'm celebrating another milestone today. Yippeeee! It's crazy to me that less than a week ago I was "on the fence" about continuing this feast. I've been in such a different place for the past few days. In fact, after realizing I have only 42 more days to go, I'm kind of freaked out. That's not very much time! Will I be ready to go back to solid food by then? Right now I feel like I could feast forever :)
Lesson: When you think you're ready to throw in the towel and call it quits, wait a day or two. Give yourself time to regroup to see if things look differently.
A lot of feelings present themselves while juice feasting. Sometimes you feel weak, discouraged, negative, and at times you may feel an overpowering urge to quit. Little things seem big things as emotions, memories, and hurts from the past leave your system during detox. During these times, it's helpful to breathe, meditate, pray, partake in light exercise, and seek out support from other juice feasters. An enema can also greatly assist in speeding up the detox process. Remember, tomorrow things are likely to look different. Give yourself a day to two and then decide if you want to keep moving forward.

Personal Care Recipes:
Shampoos & Conditioners
As much as 60% of what you put on your skin can be absorbed into your body. On average, women use as many as 12 personal care products per day, which can expose them to hundreds of unregulated chemicals. While you're juice feasting, it's important to try to eliminate as many of the toxins coming into your body as you can. This applies to the toxins found in make-up, soaps, detergents, cleaning products, and hair dyes. Here are some great recipes from the Do It Green Minnesota magazine:
Basic Shampoo
2 cups distilled water
1 1/2 tablespoons dried, chopped soapwart root (available at health food stores)
2 teaspoons Lemon Verbena or Catnip
Bring water to a boil add soapwart and simmer, cover for about 20 minutes. Remove from heat, add herb then allow mixture to cool. Strain the mixture keeping the liquid. Pour into a bottle. Makes enough for 6-7 shampoos. Must be used within 8-10 days. Store in a cool dark place.
Fruit Conditioner
1 avocado (peeled and mashed)
1 cup of coconut milk
Combine mashed avocado with some coconut milk. Mash together until it's smooth and about as thick as shampoo. comb it through the hair and let sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse out with water.
Shiny Hair Rinse
Use apple cider vinegar (1/2 cup to 1 quart of water). Beer works, too!
Baking soda is another inexpensive and effective shampoo alternative. Simply add water to it to make a paste (and essential oils of your choice for scent) and "shampoo" your roots. Here are some more great tips from Christi Colvin at Nature Moms on you can go "no poo" using baking soda.
